 PRIMARY CARE MATTERS

News

Dear everyone!

We’re nearly half-way through 2008 and so much has happened.  I want to take this time to say hello to all of you who were so helpful to me last year and give you a little update on the latest since I left my practice in West Marin County.  In addition, at the bottom, I have a little request for you to help me get my story out to help make our health care better in this country.

But first, Drs. Whitt and Gleber have been busily picking up where I left off and many of you have enjoyed their services.  Thank you so much for supporting their effort to keep my practice in Point Reyes.

I am very much enjoying my new role as Medical Director at Hospice by the Bay where I get to use my medical skills all over the bay area.  I am so happy to be working with such a fine organization, not to mention the normal hours, seeing my family and getting paid.  What a concept.  I also continue to be Medical Director at Serenity Knolls, an alcohol and chemical dependency treatment facility.

I am much happier than I was when I left the West Marin Medical Center and so is my family.  However, I miss all of you very much and I have not forgotten that physicians all over the country are struggling with the exact same issues I struggled with.  To this end, I have the following news:

Website News:  The website, thanks to Roger Kovach, my masterful webmaster, is continuing on.  It is still under renovation of sorts, due to my busy schedule.  However, you may see that there are some film clips from interviews with me by Toni Littlejohn and Nancy Bertelson.  I think they cover some important issues and are worth looking at if you have the time.  If you have any trouble viewing them, email the website and the webmaster will help you.

Hospice by the Bay:  I will be notifying you of an event Hospice by the Bay will put on in West Marin soon, in which I will be the speaker.  I’m hoping this will be a chance for you to learn what it is that I do and for me to reconnect with you.

Reader’s Digest:  This is really exciting!  A wonderful woman named Ellen Michaud who writes for Reader’s Digest is doing a story about the current state of affairs in medicine in this country.  In particular, she is featuring communities like ours.  Reader’s Digest has a large readership, as you know, and this is an opportunity for all of us to tell our story.  I have spent time telling her what happened to me and she is very interested to hear from all of you.  She has very much enjoyed reading the letters on the website and specifically wants to hear from you all about what it was like for you when I announced that I was leaving and why.  She needs this by Monday, May 19th.  Please help her with this piece.  It would mean the world to get our story out.  Her email is ellenmichaud@blackberrycottageproductions.com and her telephone number is (802)453-5857.    This contact was made for me through the California Academy of Family Physicians who have been pivotal in getting my story to key political people and media, so stay tuned for more!

Thank you all and I look forward to hearing from you all soon,

Molly
